I Just Pretend No one is Watching
Written by Cheryl Standage May 17, 2011
after watching Thirteen year-old Tayla Kelley fearlessly perform on Dancing with the Stars
Catch me if you can as I dance above the floor!
While in flight, cares to remember no more.
Sunlight glistens. The moon shines bright.
But nothing moves me like the dance I’ll dance tonight!
If thoughts of worry begin to come my way;
I lose myself in dance and sail right through the day.
They ask me “how do you seem so calm and trusting?”
I just relax and say, “I just pretend that no one’s watching!”
Shanae turns, tour jetes and a little arabesque,
The miracle medicine that meets the test,
And takes me to a place of beauty and giving.
While others enjoy, “I just pretend that no one’s watching.”
The peaceful beauty of a feeling in motion,
Is like the rush in your soul while surfing the ocean.
The curves you see as she sails the floor
Reveal hours of dedication, training and more.
Not only a goal that she meets every day,
But dance lifts her up and gives her a way,
To overcome and in those moments, no one may know,
The fears she has conquered; only the dance that makes her glow!
What is the dance that makes her glide?
It’s in her heart, so deep down inside.
A time of beauty and giving.
This girl rocks at living!
Dreams of flying through the clouds like a bird in flight,
Have come true for Tayla Kelley and her family tonight.
When Tom Bergeron asked her how she stayed so calm while performing.
Tayla quietly answered, “I Just Pretend That No One’s Watching!”
